Welcome
Welcome to the Launceston Environment Centre (LEC), a non-profit community organisation that has been serving the northern Tasmanian community since 1974.
We strive to bring about community awareness, responsible attitudes and actions for the protection and enhancement of the environment and quality of life through an educative and knowledge based process.
We are your representatives for environmental issues; taking up community concerns and providing professional support, understanding, and/or assistance.
The LEC vision statement and its supporting statements of intent are:
- Northern Tasmania’s community voice striving for a healthy and sustainable environment benefiting all communities.
- As an independent non-profit organisation, our members, volunteers, staff and contractors foster research and education; promoting enquiry, appreciation, and conservation.
- By providing resources and establishing partnerships we engage primarily with the communities of Northern Tasmania as well as collaborating with Tasmanian and Australian organisations.
- Our independence enables us to host specialists without compromising our capacities to participate.
- As a body representing public interests we influence policy and encourage the delivery of best practices supporting the public good.
We have an environment library that can be searched online and is open to
interested individuals, school and university students. Our collection can provide information on many environment related issues from climate change to
water quality.
